Ready to ink deal for XC90 -questions.
I've heard grumbling that the 3.2 is a dog. Thoughts? Anything simple you can do to bump up power other than cams/headwork/exhaust? I can't find V8 within 200 miles of here.
Will the 2011's have T5 or T6 option? Any changes coming for 2011''s?
Good room for 3 elementary school aged kids?
I checked to be sure I fit in it (6ft 5in) no problem there.

It really isn't the 3.2 that is the issue. It's the transmission. We were just at the Volvo dealer the other day getting a new key made and the service writer was telling us that they have a lot of trouble with the trannies in the T6's.
In all honesty I love the 2.5T, it rocks my world! And so far it is getting close to 20 mpg. Can't sneeze at that with today's fuel prices.
Even with the automatic transmission I have no problem doing burn outs when I romp on the gas. Give a whirl you may be surprised.

I think you have the wrong year, engine, etc. Trolsk.
4t-65 Gm trans are junk. found in t-6 2.9L 04 up
now the 3.2 has the tf-80, 07 up completely different. I dont think it even comes with the new t-6 3.0L, but I would not try to modify this motor, your asking for trouble buying one already. oops did i say that...
2011 xc90 t-5, NO!
t-6, doubt it.

Thinking of buying a new Volvo? - Don't!
Have an 04, cost $55k and was good for 1st 2 years, but since it is just a piece of junk: bad trany, bad motor mounts, bad power steering motor, bad factory radio, bad sun roof drainage (vacuumed 3 gal of water from under front seats), bad gas mileage (~12 miles/gal), etc.
It was my wife's dream to have the safety of a Volvo and an SUV so we broke the bank and got one. What a piece of junk! My Chrysler Sebring is 14 years old and runs better now than the Volvo after 2 years! I bought my daughter a Honda CRV 5 years ago and it has been a great car - no repairs, great mileage, and comfortable and it was 1/2 the cost!
Stay away from Volvo, in my opinion!

Sorry to diss Volvo on the Volvo Forum site, knowing that we all probably own one and would like to not admit we may have made a mistake, but also believe in the power of the informed consumer. The more dialog we have about what is good and bad will help others decide and if they decide yes, and take the informed risk, then Volvo wins. If on the other hand the informed consumer says No, then eventually Volvo will "hear" us and either make the changes, or go out of business due to a poor product.
I would like to give a strong endorsement and prove my purchase was right, but unfortunately that is not possible and if I can prevent another consumer from making the same mistake, I feel somehow validated.

U.S. cars gain in quality
A recent consumer survey shows that Toyota has paid dearly among car owners for its recalls over accelerator pedal problems.
Toyota fell to 21st (out of 33 brands) from sixth place in 2009 in the annual J.D. Power & Associates Initial Quality Study. The automaker also fell below the industry average for the first time in the 24-year history of the survey, which measures perceptions of quality among car owners. Domestic brands, also for the first time in survey history, caught up with European and Asian cars. J.D. Power grades carmakers on the number of problems per 100 vehicles, and this year, domestics had one fewer per 100 vehicles than imports. The survey looked at 2010 vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership. Several domestic brands fell below the industry average of 109 problems per 100 vehicles this year. Cadillac fell to 12th from third, and Chevrolet dropped to 12th, tied with Nissan, Cadillac and Audi, from ninth. — New York Times
