I've been looking at buying a remote car starter since I live not only in Canada, but in the damn mountains, and it gets seriously cold here. I've talked to the closest Volvo dealership and they've said it'll be $850.00 total cost to have them install one.

They only install one model, the Titan Innovations TS 151A.

I'm curious if any of you have this starter, or different remote starters, how well they work, and what to look for when buying a remote starter to make sure it's compatible with the XC90.

Seems fair to me considering after the installation you will hold them accountable for the performance and reliability of the RS unit as well as your vehicle. Talk to the tech on what makes that particular unit special for your XC and see an actual breakdown of labor and parts from the service manager. Range and options for the unit should be provided by the dealership. I am under impression that $850 is in Canadian, and the current exchange rate makes it less in US dollars.
