Hey everyone, so the starter on my '97 850 just went this morning, my baby won't turn over. Since I'm a student and not made out of money I'm gonna head to one of my local scrap yards and grab a used starter out of an 850. I need to know though, if all the connections and voltages/power are the same for all years of the 850's, since it's hard for me to find an actual '97. Also my car is manual, do I need to find a car that's standard too? Thanks guys hope to hear back quick!!

 

The starters you find for an 850 shouldn't be too different. The junk yard will be able to help. They're actually modernized and can help with compatibility of parts.

rap on the starter a few times with a wrench and it may start up. Starters often form a bad spot and when the motor stops on this spot it wont start. tapping on the starter with a tool can get it off that bad spot and let it work....sometimes for Many more starts and sometimes just once more.

I found a starter for my 850 on ebay for $40 shipped.(complete with silinoid)

 

Yeah I went with the cheap new Ebay starter as well. Been cranking fine for 3+ years.
