Thumbs up Repair Fix for XC90 Floppy Sun Visor 2003-2013

Greetings again, our 2008 XC90 got a floppy sun visor that wouldn't stay in position. We had the version with the garage door opener on it, and replacements are outrageously expensive or hard to find in the right color and quality. So I found a 'simple fix' for the issue.
You can replace the spring clip inside the visor to keep your original visor. The clips are the same in at least the model years 2003-2013, possibly over a wider range as well. They are also the same drivers and passengers side.
  • find the cheapest, nastiest passenger (less wear on the clip) sun visor you can,
  • tear it open, unclip the spring clip, pull it off,
  • using a sharp xacto, cut open 4 inches of your visor along the hinge,
  • pull out the broken pieces of your spring clip, insert the new one,
  • clip it shut,
  • and sew up your sun visor. The stitches won't show.

Descriptive photos below. Maybe some day these clips sill be sold aftermarket.

What breaks is a metal spring clip inside the visor. Ours was cracked along the bend of highest stress.

Cracked original spring clip from inside visor

Replacement spring clip inside donor visor

Replacement spring clip on it own

Replacement spring clip placed inside original visor

Screw 'teeth' taped at tips of pliers to close spring clip by pressing on it's clip side

Finished, stitched up.
