Special tools for alternator replacement?
My 2005 2.5T XC90 needs a new alternator and our normal mechanic said that it would require some kind of special tools to replace. After hearing that we have taken it to the dealership for replacement.
My question is what tools are needed that are special and how much are they?
Thanks

i found the hardest thing to do when replaceing my alternator a few weeks ago was how to get it out and how to get it back in LOL
you actually have to wedge the engine back a little bit for it to come out and wedge it back ALOT to get a larger 160amp back in.
i used no special tools except a opened wrench on the tensioners bolt head.
its going to hurt your pockets at the dealer. probably about $450
took me 2.5hrs to figure this one out but all the others should take me 1.5hrs now. you should buy a new serp belt to from the dealer since that has to come off.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
after this is done, be sure that there are no plastic sheilds not put back correctly. there is on piece that if it were to be put back wrong, will eventually come down and start touching the right front axle and then it will put a hole in the cv boot = $$ for a new axle. i know this from experience after the 2nd "bad" axle broke the same way 2 days after it was installed!!
