Default Suggestions Box

  1. The radio turns on when the driver’s door is opened (Work-around: Hit Bluetooth symbol on the screen before exiting).
  2. All doors auto lock when the vehicle is put into drive. The driver can lock the doors if desired.
  3. The profile drive mode is not persistent and reverts to comfort at every ignition. This is very annoying.
  4. The driver’s seat cannot be set to flat. There is always a rearward slope. I want to raise the back portion of the seat.
  5. The review mirror and side mirrors are darkened at night which does not allow the driver to see the road behind to judge distance of oncoming traffic in the rear. This is a bad safety issue.
  6. Why do the bright lights have to angle up each time when going from dim to bright? Why doesn’t the bright lights just stay up? Is it because the only difference between dim and bright is the directional angle?
  7. When towing a trailer in mountain areas, there is no way to tell if the water, transmission, oil, or turbo is getting hot until there is a warning and it’s too late.
  8. The drive mode profile cannot select suspension without binding it with performance. I want a higher suspension and stiffer with changing the performance
  9. There is a definite lack of cup holders
  10. The cig lighter/power plug in the front tunnel is dangerous if left open and metal objects (keys, paper clips, small coins, etc) fall into it. This is a safety hazard.
  11. There is an opening in the front tunnel where objects like credit cards can easily fall into and get lost.
  12. If two people get in at the same time and each has their own FOB, it’s random which Key FOB will be selected for the profile.
  13. There is no sunglass or spare eyeglass holder
  14. Gas door open indicator? I noticed the gas door was open but did not notice any indicator
  15. The front seat can extend but it causes debris to collect underneath the slide out. So you need to extend the seat and clean out under it and not just on top.
  16. Front and Rear headrest are not adjustable or removeable.
  17. The Driver's seat does not adjust high enough.
I wished Volvo could see the above remarks.

Sounds like a nice shopping list for your next Toyota. Personally I am more from the utilitarian camp where the car is to get you places with an enjoyable driving experience and I don't see my cars as a mobile living room. When any car is designed, the product team considers their target market then designs accordingly (which is why my wife's Highlander has like six cup holders and my son's S40 has one LOL). As a point of comparing tastes/interests, here's my take on your list.

1) Radio on when the doors open - WHY? Makes no sense. Some cars alllow the radio to come on with the key one and others require you to hit the on button. Problem solved.
2. Auto-locking is a common feature on most cars as a safety feature, not just Volvo. I Blame GM for this. Check with the dealer if this can be disabled.
3. I do like the idea of the car remembering driver preferences like seat position, drive mode, mirror positions, HVAC settings etc, but to do this right the driver would need to select their mode or the car should remember from the last user. Not sure if other premium brands have this. My old 850T had 3 buttons on the drivers seat for position memory which was a great feature since my wife and I are 8" apart in height.
4. Lie flat drivers seat. What is this a car or a camper? Makes no sense.
5. Auto-dimming mirrors are a safety feature. If you are looking to see how close the guy is behind you, you are not looking at the road. Besides the bigger safety risk is being blinded by the tail-gater with his high beams on blinding you via the mirrors.
6. Not sure what you are seeing with the high/low beam issue. Low beams typically project a Z pattern (lower on the left/higher on the right for a LHD car) where high beams project at a higher angle. When you use the stalk to "dip" the beams on some cars it turns on both high and low temporarily. this is probably what you are seeing. You may want to get your headlamp angle checked to make sure they are correctly aimed.
7. Engine Coolant / Transmission Temp sensor warning lights - these are just that, a warning light that come on early enough to allow you to safely take corrective action and are not "too late" PS there is no turbo temp thing since it is cooled by the water/oil. If you really have a need to know exact temperatures when driving, buy an OBD2 dongle and a mobile app and use the real time data feed.
8. Suspension setting control. Again this is where the product people have packaged a feature based on probable user experience. Not sure if there's a programming option to repackage in the Volvo. If you want to firm up your ride, add 3 PSI to your tires. Granted some cars do allow the drive to select suspension mode separately from the transmission mode but that's just adding another button/switch to an already complex user experience.
9. Lack of cup holders - Buy a Toyota Highlander or Siena and enjoy your beverage of choice. Or buy one of those Walmart add ons that clips on the vent or top of the door :-)
10. cig lighter socket - Easy fix is to buy a USB charger socket for $5 while you are in Walmart buying a cup holder. I have no idea where my lighters are but all my sockets are now USB enabled.
11. Slots - duct tape can fix that or put your credit cards in your cup holder. or fashion a cup for your cup holder then put your bits in that.
12. Two fobs - Of course the car will pair to the first found. Solution here is let the driver in first.
13. Sun glass holder. My VW CC has this feature where the bin is up above the mirror with the vanity light buttons. Total waste since its not a convient spot. I leave mine in my cup holder. Not sure how convenient your ashtray is for this - at least the glasses are too big to slip into the center console.
14. Gas Door position - Not a hard thing to close and check from time to time. Not sure if any other models have a sensor or not. None of my cars have this.
15. cleaning debris from under the seat. What? you have to move the seat to clean debris from under it? Not sure how your car is different from any other car seat. Maybe the solution is to not eat or drink in the car or buy a car seat back trash bag when you are in Walmart buying a cup holder and USB lighter socket.

My point to all this is these are all very minor and subjective, and most are reflective of norms for the industry and not something specific to Volvo.

  18. There is a lot of heat coming out from the dash when there is no heat turned on. It's 85 degrees out with lots of additional heat coming from the dash. I think it is coming from the Infotainment Center.
  19. Something to note. It appears the radio stays on when pressing the off in the middle of the dash. It only goes to mute.
