Default Thermostat Change

I have an '03 XC90 T6. I am getting codes 0128/0116 (t-stat and coolant sensor). I was thinking of doing it myself instead of the stealership. Has anyone here done this or have pointers?

It seems that the timing belt cover needs to come off which may necessitate turbo intake piping to be freed up. Am I way off?

Thanks for any help.

Default RE: Thermostat Change

You are right on.The hose between the turbo and the charge air cooler and the hose between the turbo and the air cleaner need to come off.

You also need to remove the engine stabiliser brace andthe clamp holding the return hose for the power steering. The servo reservoir has to be lifted up and placed on top of the engine after sealing it to stop oil leaking out (highly inflammable). Remove the screw for the front timing belt cover then the timing belt cover.

Then you can start to do the job you wanted to do all along - the thermostat. Oh for the days of easy maintenance cars.
