Hi all, first post here and all (a pretty heavy user over at MBWorld), I currently drive a Mercedes E550 and am thinking about selling it and picking up a Volvo XC90.

I need the space and also have a bunch of other reasons to drive me toward this car, and I'm all but sold on the switch but there's one thing causing me to hesitate...

I want to reduce the cost of maintenance I currently pay for my Mercedes. We also have a Lexus and the cost to maintain it is considerably less (Toyota parts).

How's the cost of maintaining an XC90? Are you all that purchased the XC90 happy with your decision in this regard?

For what it's worth, I'm specifically eyeing a 2010 V8 AWD.

 

All in all Volvo's are generally less expensive to maintain and service than a MB, but not drastically. The real value IMO is in finding an independent shop. In my area I have one that only works on Volvo's and they are superb. I also know of several shops in the area that specialize in European cars in general that also have a dedicated core of clientele. I have always said that if a quality car was maintained to MB standards it would last just as long as a MB as friends who have them have shared their maintenance records with me and they are extremely thorough in their PM.
