Thinking of Buying a XC90

Hi,
I have read through the forums and still have a few questions.
I am looking to purchase a 2007 XC90 with 84,000km's (50k miles). I am well of aware of the possible transmission problems with the older xc90's with the 3.2l. I am just wondering if the 07 model has the same tranny problems. I have searched on google and cannot seem to find anything regarding the 2007 models and potential issues, only the 2004-2006 models. Consumer reports seems to give the 2007 and above xc90 a very good review.
Are there any other issues with this car that I should be concerned about, or costly repairs ?
Thank you in advance.

The transmission problems were only for the T6 model that isn't made anymore (stopped making them in 2005.) The new 6cyl uses a different motor (3.2 vs. 2.9). The problem was the turbo 6cyl had too much power for the crappy GM transmission they used. You will be happy with the 2007 but maybe should drive a 2.5T to compare. I have a 2006 2.5T AWD and LOVE it. Was given a 2008 3.2 as a loaner once and couldn't wait to get mine back. The 3.2 seemed under powered compared to the 2.5T. Just my opinion though.

I, too, started looking at 07 XC90s .... the sticker for a certified 07 v8 sport is about 30-32 here around Philadelphia. But when I started looking at the total cost of ownership, I came to the conclusion that going brand new was actually a better decision. If you're worried about buying an older model, you might want to think about going new.
While the sticker on an '11 will be 10-17k more (for the 3.2), that gap can be reduced with good negotiating. With current financing, five year warranty (versus two likely on a CPO 07), and five years of maintenance (versus 0), the actual cost per mile difference is negligible, assuming you're going to keep either car at least five years. Plus, no worries about how the person before you broke the car in, how long before you have to replace the tires, etc, etc.
If you want to dive deeper into the numbers, I'm happy to help. If not, I've read good things about the 07's overall reliability. Either way, best of luck.
Cheers,
Rocco
