Timing Questions
Good morning everyone I have some questions about getting the xc90 back in time. I had a cam lock on back of the cams nothing on the front. I marked the cam gears and crank shaft with a red marker were their position was.My brother was helping me and he was taking the crank pulley off and rounded off one of the four bolts. During his aggravation with the rounded bolt I came over to see if I could help and I noticed the red marks were not straight and right when I noticed it he cut the timing belt. Of course the cam gear turned but they have play in them. Can I just turn the gears back straight with the red marks and put the crank back where it was marked? Because he must have moved the crank when was taking the bolts off of the crank pulley. Do I need to find the factory marks and line it up that way? Please help I don't wan this thing out of time because I don't want to replace a head.
I forgot to tell you that I marked the cam gears and he marked the crank but he marked it after he took off the 30mm nut on the crank. JUst because I asked him if he marked the position. I don't know if it moved before he marked it or after. I'm thinking if he marked the crank after the cam gears moved it would be out of time if I put the marks back in time. The best I cab remember is the cam gears were about the 11 o'clock position before he cut it not 12 o'clock. Also which marks are the factory ones.
