Exclamation Warning on using incorrect spark plugs

I made an expensive mistake with my Volvo XC90 T6 Year 2005. I exchanged the sparkplugs with those recommended by my local NAPA parts dealer, namely Autolite spark plugs. They were correctly dimensioned, although I had to modify the gap to that specified by Volvo. Unfortunately after approximately 100 miles of driving the engine went into "limp mode" and the Check-engine" light came on, right on the Bay Bridge in SF. Had to get towed by AAA. The repair shop (San Bruno Auto Repair: very efficient and very friendly) determined the problem was the total disintegration of the spark plug tips. The spark gaps had grown excessively (during only 100 miles of operation). They replaced the plugs with Bosch spark plugs and informed me that European cars often will not work with anything but Bosch plugs, and definitely not with Autolite plugs.

Thanks for sharing your story. Very important lesson. I learnt my lesson when I used the wrong type of spark plugs on an Acura Legend before. I used premium Bosch but the car would stall. I was lucky. The engine was not hurt. The premium Bosch obviously didn't like my Legend. It turned out that very specific Japanese copper tip, not the platinum Bosch would work.
