It’s been 90 degrees in my area for several months, and recently I’ve been dailying my XC90 while my other car is in the shop. I took my entire front bumper and headlights out to try and find my A/C pressure switch and I have no idea where it is, or if it’s even there. Would someone be kind enough to guide me in the right direction or post a picture of it on an XC90? Thanks in advance!
Well heat works, compressor spins, clutch won't engage. Figured I'd try that as no one within an hour and a half of me wants to work on this vehicle. Just had condenser replaced with radiator as it was in a front end collision.
The 3.2 has a variable displacement compressor. Displacement is changed by moving the angle of the swash plate in the compressor. The valve that controls that movement commonly goes bad and valve replacement has fixed many of those cars at my shop. If the center of the compressor clutch is spinning with the outer pulley, the system is properly charged and the low side pipe at the compressor (the bigger one) is not cold - that valve might be a problem.
If the compressor clutch is not engaged - I've seen bad temp sensors either in the evaporator or outside air temp cause the clutch to not engage. (or the system could be simply empty) Scanning the car with a compatible scan tool and attaching a set of ac gauges would be a good first step.
Thanks so much. Ive attached a few images of what I’m working with. Am I in the wrong area to put the pressure switch in? I can’t figure out where it goes for the life of me. 😩😩😩
Is that a new condensor and radiator? As in a body man left the switch off and hid the wiring? Part catalog shows the switch at the bottom of the dryer, maybe where that plug is.
Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of. I’ve had such a time paying people to make my situation worse, I figured I’d do it myself. I was wondering why my setup didn’t match this diagram. I’m just going to take it to Volvo, thanks so much, you’ve been a huge help!!
