I have a 2018 XC90 'Inscription Pro' with 21" wheels and 275/40 R21 tyres. A neighbour who's recently sold his XC90 'Momentum' had purchased another set of wheels with winter tyres. As no longer has use for them he's offered to sell them to me. However, they are 19" wheels (official Volvo Momentum version from 2016) with 235/55 R19 tyres. All in hardly used condition.
My questions is, can I simply swap them over? The overall diameter of the tyre is the same but obviously they are 40mm narrower. One dealer says just swap them over... but another said I need a software change that costs £19.50 + 3/4 hr labour so a total of £140. Also, that this is required each time I swap them over! Something to do with the steering lock apparently.
I bought the Michelin Alpin 5 275/40r21 for a T6. They are nice Winter tires.
Caution: The Tread design changes from smaller tire size to the larger 21"
I like the tread design a lot better in the larger size (see attached)
These tire look and feel very nice
Yes you should be able to drop the 19s on your model but need to see what the proper width/aspect ratios are for your year. A good resource for factory recommended tire sizes, rim specs etc is wheel-size.com (ps they show 235/55x19 as the size for the 8Jx19 ET42.5 rims for an XC90)
