Has anyone out there had this problem on XC90?
Ignition key will not go past positon 1, break will not release key or gear stick.
Battery is fully charged. HAve managed to put gear in N to get towed but thats it
Any ideas

 

Yes, I also have a problem startingmy 2005 XC90 (T6) -- it has stranded me four times in the past six months -- won't start. I havepower, thealarm remote works, etc., but computer locks out the ignition sequence. I've been to the dealership three times for this (towed once) andthey perform a "CEM Update" each time, but it does not address the problem. The vehicle has 51,000 miles and I am under lease for another 14 months. As soon as lease expires, this thing is history!

 

Try an ignition lock

 

ignition lock is a good chance also check cable from ignition lock to gear shifter assembly.. they got broken all the time. evev a new part from wearhouse comes broken if not transported properly.

 

I had this very problem and it drove me nuts, because I couldn't get my vehicle started several times. As it turns out, my dealer lubricated the ignition lock and and shifter and it hadn't happen for over a year now.
