Angry XC90 2023 Android Automotive System

I have bought an XC90 2023 model, with the new Android Automotive system. The experience was a disappointment from day 1. While set-up was rather intuitive (but long), the usage itself is FAR from a 80k euro car and from what rival models are offering. Android Automotive means that the car has no longer Android Auto/Car Play. The system works like an Android operated tablet with CarPlay as an app. While CarPlay works brilliantly with my wife's iPhone, I can not share the same happiness with my Android phone.
1. The system keeps disconnecting from bluetooth and wireless internet. 9 out of 10 times I had to reconnect manually the phone (in order to use the phone, agenda and internet functions) NOT ONLY when entering the car, but also when driving. Again, in a 2023, 80k euro car.
2. The voice interaction with the system is confusing for... my phone. 'Hey Google' starts two devices in the same time - the phone and the OS in the car.
3. For so many times, because there were connection problems, the music hasn't stopped when the phone call started. Very, very annoying.
4. Total system blackout for 3-4 times since this August, whe I bought the car.
5. You don't have Waze as an app, so if you like/rely on Waze, you have to use a support for the phone. I used one and I destroyed the fragile fins of the AC vent. I am SO frustrated because of this. I couldn't imagined that I would drive a top of the line Volvo model in 2022 with a cheap plastic supporting my phone for navigation. Anyway, I heard Waze is coming for Android Automotive in 2023.
6. If you use Google Maps on the large mid console screen you have no other info about what's going on with the system, except some small info about climate control on the bottom of the screen. No split screen, no info about the song currently playing etc.
7. Navigating the system while driving is not very intuitive, and operating it is dangerous - especially while switching between apps.
8. So little data about the car in the 'extended' menu: total no. of kilometers, average speed, trip info. That's it. And there's no option to choose what data you'd like to keep on the dashboard.

Google, Volvo, seriously??!

Default No Android Auto as of Dec 14, 2022

You are bang on target. With an 80k Euro car that heavily advertised 'Google' infotainment system, one would expect basic things like android auto will work seamlessly. It doesn't work at all!!! Got the latest OTA update to 22.5 Version today and android auto is still not supported. Its pathetic. They should just be upfront that android auto is not supported until further notice.

Unhappy

Same in here. I've just got my 2023 XC90 three weeks ago. I am an Android user and I do not want to install every application into cars infotainment system. I just need it to connect my phone and use the supported applications right from there. It is supported for every car brand for last 8 years maybe but not in Volvo XC90 in year 2023. For example, a friend is sending me a direction link and I can not open it in car's infotainment system because it is a different system and it does not have my WhatsApp application. I use Microsoft Teams for business purposes and receiving some messages while driving, I can not make infotainment system to read it because there is no Microsoft Teams on it and it is not possible to install it because it is company protected application. So basically just allow those phones to connect to cars via Android Auto. I don't want to use car's operating system for my apps. I don't want to maintain duplicate applications. I just want to allow any guest in my car to be able to connect their phones to the car to play their Spotify lists on the road. The product manager of this system, what a bad customer experience you cause by thinking you carried Volvo's to a new level in tech. It should not be that much hard to return from your mistake.

Also it is too funny we are still connecting our phones with a cable to the most expensive car of Volvo in year 2023. It is so pity that wireless Android Auto or Apple Car play is not supported. If you want to invest in technology and carry the car to a next level, just add wireless connectivity of phones to cars for applications. That's all.

Wireless Android Auto/CarPlay would be nice, but there are rumors this is coming in a future software update to AAOS. Personally I don’t see it as a huge drawback, if you’ve ever used wireless CarPlay it’s a huge drain on the battery. Sure it’s nice for short trips, but for long trips you’re plugging in your device to keep it charged. Considering there is no wireless charger in the recent model years for models in the United States, not sure about other countries.

If the dealer hasn’t shared this, but if you ever experience issues press and hold the home button on the infotainment unit for around 20 seconds. You’ll see the Volvo logo show up and that is when you let go of the home button. This performs a reboot of AAOS. CarPlay not working even though your phone is connected and charging, reboot. Rear camera flickering, reboot. Bluetooth flaky, reboot.
