Default Apple CarPlay - What’s the big deal?

OK, I downloaded and installed Apple CarPlay, but I fail to see any advantage it has over the regular Google interface, where I can use maps, make calls, listen to music, etc., without having to physically plug in a USB cable. I can access all my iPhone playlists easily via Bluetooth. To me, it’s a step backwards in terms of usability. What am I missing here?

Honestly, the only thing I need is Waze. If only AAOS would allow Waze navigation, the default system would be great. I use Apple Music, but bluetooth from my phone works well enough. I know other people have other apps that are not available on AAOS that are on Apple Carplay, but I really only need Waze.

Mine is the 2021 vintage operating on 'Sensus' VS Google. I can use Waze if I plug the phone in w/cable using Android but quite honestly, I like Sensus much better. Using Waze, it reverts to a much smaller screen for the Nav and less information than Sensus offers. On yours, wouldn't Google maps be better than Waze? Just curious.

For long road trips, I use Google maps and it is wonderfully implemented in Android automotive. Google maps once saved me hours of sitting in a major traffic jam/car accident when it alerted me to a detour literally seconds before I would have been stuck.

However, for local trips, I prefer Waze due to the exclusive features of community reports. There have been numerous times I have avoided objects/animals in the road and cars stopped on the side of the road due to notifications in Waze. Also, being alerted to speed/red light cameras as well as police are great perks. Once you're used to these notifications, it's hard to drive without them.

Also, IMHO, Waze looks so much better than Google maps. The way Google maps zooms in/out doesn't seem logical to me. When I get to an intersection, I want it to zoom in and show details, which I feel Google maps does a poor job.
