Default XC90 - Alarm Problem

Hi,

I recently purchased a second hand 2006 XC90 D5 AWD. Only had it a week or so. I live in Jersey, where car theft is as usual as a solar eclipse, although vandalism has got worse.

I will be taking the car over to the UK tomorrow and just realised that the car alarm doesn't appear to activate. I have had a quick scan of the manual and as far as I am aware I need only lock the car in order to activate the alarm, is that correct?

If I try to open the doors or barge the car 5 mins after locking it, no alarm.....

I am therefore trying to run through the possibilities:-

1) Alarm deactivated by previous owner because hassle vs chance of theft (possible in Jersey)
2) Alarm not working
3) Alarm not fitted? (Suspect that all models have this as standard?)

Any help as soon as possible would be appreciated.

The only other information that I can give that might be useful is that the car has Volvo guard stickers on the window and there is a small LED flashing on the dash and the vehicle does behave as per the manual i.e. indicators give a long flash when locked, short one when unlocked via keyfob?

As far as I am aware there is an alarm button on the key fob (yellow one) but this is just to sound the alarm to attract attention?

try this roll the driver window down and close all the doors while standing out of the car lock the vehicle.wait about 30 sec. and reach into the car and open the door from the inside the alarm should go off.
