Default XC90 DVD audio issues

Hey everyone, my wife and I just bought a 2007 Volvo XC90. I always try to join forums when I get new cars cause I know I'll eventually need some help lol. We have the DVD system in the headrests and they work just fine, power on and off and play the DVDs, but the audio just likes like a bunch of clicks. The radio works perfectly fine so I know all the speakers are ok, it's JUST the Aux audio that seems messed up. We are getting ready to go to Orlando in November (from GA) and would love to have this working by then with 2 kids. Any ideas as to the culprit? I searched for DVD issues and only seemed to find threads about power related issues. Has anyone else run across this? THe guy we bought it from had kids that were grown so they never used the DVD system and we unfortunately didn't have a DVD with us at the time to try out. Other than that we love it! Thanks for any insight!

Quick update, but further questions. I ordered a replacement remote for the DVD players and that allowed me to change the audio from AUX to the speakers (not sure why Volvo wouldn't make a button for this actually in the car?) But the audio comes through just very faintly in the back. I try to adjust the volume in the back but nothing seems to be working. If we have it on the radio, the speakers all work perfectly fine. Is there a special way to turn up the DVD volume on the back speakers? The remote has no volume controls on it. I feel like I"m just missing something but I've checked the owners manual, the DVD system manual and just can't find anything that works.

I’ve had issues with my audio not working when watching dvds and from my experience and some of what I’ve read regarding the dvd system the solution appears to be in the remote. You mentioned that you’re remote does not have volume controls, I would recommend you source a second hand remote (oem Volvo remote) that actually has control for volume. In my case I was never able to even power on my dvd system until I used the remote (power button on remote). The volume will not sound until you hit the button that looks like a speaker. At least this is how my system works. The buttons on the console lid at the dvd player appear useless, although they might work after you turn the system on with the remote I’d have to check but nonetheless there is no volume control at my dvd player itself. And yes I just checked the buttons at the player will work but only after I use the remote to power the system up initially. I will update with the part number of the remote I have if I can find one. That’s also the part I had read in forums somewhere is others had said the same regarding the remote and how they have to use it to turn on the system as well.

And for me the button labeled “audio” will not turn on the sound. I have to hit the button that looks like a speaker and that turns on the dvd audio. My remote has 15 buttons including the d pad in the middle. I’m not seeing a part number just yet, and not sure how to attach a pic just yet. Hope this helps..

Before you go nuts, try a different DVD. Sometimes it's a bad disc, not the player. If that doesn't fix it, check the connections at the back of the headrest units, maybe a loose wire?
