Gearbox oil change.
Hello everyone. I've got '07 volvo xc90 2.4 D5 136kw, and want to change my oil by DIY. Maybe yall know some good video where it shows how to do that? At volvo service they want 300€ for the change, and i think i could do it by myself. Thanks for any info you could give me

full disclosure - never done this on a Volvo but have on an Audi and the process I used was similar to the posting above. Essentially you need to find the drain bolt and the fill bolt - if you only have access to a fill bolt you can siphon out the fluid then you need a Squeeze bottle or similar to push the fresh gear oil up and back in via the fill bolt. The bolt hole sets the level but you can also measure what you took out to predict the amount that goes back in. Should be something less than a quart. You can find a fully synthetic 75/90 GL5 from a range of vendors (I used Redline but Valvoline, Mobil1 etc all have products) at about $20 or so. Also, always use new crush washers...

when you say auto box, I assume you mean a traditional automatic transmission (ie an Aisin or Getrag)? There's no set factory interval for these units (unlike my VW which specs out every 40K miles for the DSG dual clutch transmission). Lots of opinions - some say every 50K miles for a transmission drain fill, others say every 75 or 100K miles and others say don't bother as this may loosen debris causing more harm than good. The most important thing to be aware of is how to properly set the oil fill level. For the older 5 speed Aisin autos, the dip stick will show a cold fill and a hot fill line (fluid expands with temp) and there's a recommended driving cycle for getting the tranny to the warm temperature. For the 6 speed Getrags, there's a dual port drain plug whether the outer plug removes the fill tube and the inner plug drains the overflow only (the length of the tube sets the level exactly). The trick is, to do this procedure properly you need a VIDA DICE or similar diagnostics tool that can read the transmissions oil temp sensor. Another thing people do is to measure what's been drained and refill with that exact amount. Check youtube for how to vids to see if you are up for the procedure.
