Default XC90 purchase

Hello guys. Clearly this is my first post. My name is Justin. I am a very active member on Bimmerfest.com and I and thinking of purchasing my first Volvo. My neighbor is selling his 2009 XC90 V8 with only 48k miles. He said he would let it go to me and only me for 16000. He is retired State Trooper who takes care of all his vehicles with extreme care. The XC90 is spotless inside and out. He has performed all required maintenance. He is so **** with his cars so I know this is a good one. Is there anything I need to look out for that would effect my decision? I have heard that Volvos are very reliable and safe but that's pretty much all I know about them. I do know they are not very good on gas but when buying a V8 you cant expect anything else. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also I have not seen inside his backseat but most of the V8s seem to have TVs in the headrest. Is this true. That would be cool because we have 2 little girls. Anyway. Thanks again...Justin

Welcome
From what I have seen others have had pretty good luck with the V8's.
I have the T6 which has had a multitude of problems mainly Trany's and timing belts.
16 I think is a fair deal. They are beautiful trucks, ride is amazing you will love it.

Thanks for the response. Yeah. It may be time for the 5 Series to go. My wife wants something bigger. It's pretty quiet over here on this Forum. The BMW Forums are insane. We are non-stop over there. Thanks again

Yeah these guys are pretty quiet.
Towing power on the V8 is much better then the T6. small boats, Sea-do's and small campers. My 05 T6 with 200k miles, scares me to try and tow anything now with the trouble I hear on that Tranny.
Other thing you might like is its safety. My avatar pic is a tree that fell on my last XC90

Default Update

It's a 2006 not a 2009. It has 54k miles instead of 48k miles. Any thoughts on the 2006??

Price wise that is very fair, I just recentally bought my first Volvo, an 08 with 60.000 miles, I did my research and that was a great price for my region, Arklatex. Can't say about the v8 as I have an inline 6, power sucks, takes a day n a half to get it up to 60 mph but is just fine when as crusing speed. I get 20 miles per gallon max, slightly less if hot rodding which it doesn't do, so i just go with the flow and get 20mpg.

In my area I got a 05 with 100k for $5k so I think you might be in the right price range.
I have the T6 motor (about 300-320 HP I believe) which I think is pretty good power, being how heavy these things are. Mine now has 198k miles on it now, but is still going strong.
Had Volvo look at it the other day while getting oil change. They were surprised to see I was still running original struts, ball joints, some other front end parts and the fuel filter. They said they could tell cuz it still had the tape on it when it comes from factory. Since then I have put struts and new pads and rotors and 2 new coil packs.
