Is the XC90 right for me and my family?
I am interested in the XC90 because it seats 7 and the price is in my range. I am most concerned with how it handles potholes and rough city driving in New York. What do you think?
can you think of another similar vehicle that seats 7 and in that range?
Thanks so much

I like the Volvo XC90 and that is one of my choices when I get another vehicle to tow my boat. Others I am considering:
Lexus GX 470 - Don't like the way the rear hatch opens
Lexus LX 470 - Big
BMW X5 - I don't know about it for some reason
Toyota 4Runner - Not sure it comes in 7 passenger, but most reliable of the list.
Toyota Land Cruiser - Big and powerful
Infinity Q56 - Know very little about this one
Porsche Cayenne - Very very expensive to maintain. Starting to fine used ones <$20K
That is the order of preference with the XC90 being #1.
Right now I am towing the boat with a GMC Envoy. Very good tow vehicle making it hard to replace.

I'm thinking certified pre-owned and I would like the V8. Any advice?
Personally, since I want it for towing, I only consider the V8's. I really want a 2007 or newer XC90 V8 in bright red with charcoal or light grey interior. Not the ruby red, but the bright red. Same color as my boat. Starting to see them in the mid to high 20's right now.
Have a 06 XC90 V8 w/ 60K on it. Live in missouri and my wife drives it, bought used with 55K on it last year (wife doesn't drive alot). Wife just drives in the city and gets aboout 16-17mpg. I do like to drive it, feels fast and sturdy, smooth ride. Big plus is in the snow, very surefooted.
Downsides:
Good traction mainly due to weight, it is a cow
Eats tires and brakes while snacking lightly on fuel.
third row seats made for kids, but can fit adults
Its is a great car I just wouldn't want to drive it and put over 12K mile a year on it.

My 2.5T gets about 22 mpg combined.
Third row seats are tight but enough for the kids.
Went to California 5 times this Summer and really liked how it handled long trips.
If you are looking to tow, it is better to look into V8.
Many ppl are staying away from T6 due to bad transmissions.
