Question XC90 seatbelt pillar fabric wear issue

I have not been able to find anything about this but every used XC90 I have found has damage to the fabric where the top seatbelt connection is made. I figured out that this is happening when you take your seatbelt off and let go the seatbelt is retracted into the piller and the buckle hits the fabric on the pillar.

What are you all doing about this issue in your XC90? I think the 2010 models are now solid plastic instead of fabric. Will they fit on the 2008 and 2009? Anyone know the part number for this?

Thanks in advance,
Justin

Some dealers will replace them under warranty.

Thanks for the info. I will put it on the list for my dealer to look at on Friday. I am dropping it of to have them fix a few minor issues I have found living with the car for a few days. I will report back.

I just got off the phone with the Dealer who called Volvo regarding the issue. He says Volvo will not repair this under warranty because they feel this is from letting go of the seatbelt and letting it slam into the fabric. I said thats the way everyone unbuckles a seatbelt, lets go, then the seatbelt mechanism retracts the belt.

In my opinion its a design flaw that they use fabric on the B pillars which get damaged easily. The dealer agreed that they look around at the used Volvos and every one with a fabric B pillar is beat up.

So no dice on the call, I told him I would write to Volvo and that I understood the dealer could not control what they were willing to warranty.

Let me know if you are having this issue also.

Default Very interesting and a question

Hello,

I'm new to this forum but not new to trolling forums (I've trolled Audi forums for years). This topic is extremely interesting. We just picked up a 2007 XC90 and we didn't notice it when we originally looked at it but our b-pillar looks like it's a little frayed. Does anyone have a picture they can post so I can verify if I'm looking at the same problem?

Thanks!

Hey Jersey. Try this link.

Mine dont look bad but you can see the issue starting. I have seen many XC90s at the used car lots that are trashed in this spot. Maybe its a good indicator of highway miles vs city since more damage indicates getting in and out of the seatbelt more.

PS If you are in NJ where did you get your XC90? I got mine at Princeton Volvo.

Default thanks stud

It's been useful. Does anyone know if the trim from newer models will fit on the 08 and older? Also, does anyone know of a price?

BTW, our's is much worse than what your picture shows.

I found that to very interesting too now that you ALL mentioned that....I just bought my first 2009 XC90 3.2 in June, 2016 and as I was cleaning the inside of the car I just notice the pillar by the driver's side by the seat belt where it is scuffed-up obviously by the seat-belt. Now I am searching for some fabric tape to cover it because it bothers me to look at it.
