Default Have you hear of this?

Hey guys while i was looking for wheels i didnt get many options for the 5X108 bolt pattern. I found this thread though in Turbobricks.com which says its possible to change your bolt pattern by simply using a spacer. I have never heard of this so i wanted to ask you guys if
1.you have ever heard of this?
2. Is it really possible to actually do it?
3. Whats your opinion on this?

This is the link. http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=20170

1. Yes I have heard of it.

2. Yes it is possible to do.

3. I personally wouldn't do it because there are a ton of rims available on the market for 5x108mm bolt pattern out there.

I run spacers on my 325i and have run spacers on my previous 2001 GTI. Spacers are not a problem as long as you get ones that are from a reputable manf. and they are hubcentric.

People run spacers all the time. The only possiblelong term effect of spacers is added wear on your wheel bearings. Since spacers push the wheels out there is a bit more downforce on the bearing which can cause them to degrade faster than normal. I ran 20mm spacers in the front and 25mm spacers in the rear (both are considered quite thick) for 6 years on my GTI and never had wheel bearing problems. All in all, there are no problems with spacers.

edit: I just re-read your question and realized you want to change your bolt pattern. I don't have any experience with bolt adapters but what I posted aboveregarding spacersis still relevant.
