Can this puppy be cleaned or does it require replacing? 2000 Volvo S40 w/60K miles. Thanks for any input.

Dealer states that the hub needs replacing and I assume it is a code that is telling them that. From what I can see, this hub is just a hydraulic actuator that advances or retards the cam from ECM inputs by directing the CVVT Valve to send oil pressure to one side of the hub or the other. No sensors in the hub that I can determine. It seems to me that an "actuator" can be rebuilt and or cleaned.

Im not sure if you can clean it or not.You might not be able to get everything out.The VVT valve might be faulty.
