Strange creaking noises seem to come from under the tranny shifter console when braking, when coming out of the nose dive caused by braking or when hard stering (both sides).There is always only one creak for every described action.
Anybody have any idea about possible cause?

One possibility could be your lower control are bushings they are known to go bad.

Particularly if it's cold outside, you'll get creaking when you go up driveways too.
