92 940 GL Speedometer/Odometer stopped working
I own a 92 940GL and my speedometer/odometer recently stopped working. Occasionally it will work but only till a speed of around 50mph then it either drops to zero or just jumps up and down. My cruise also never seems to engage. I'm wondering if that's due to the fact that the speed does get high enough to engage the cruise?
The tach, temp gauge and fuel gauge are fine and I'm wondering if anyone can share what my options are to get this fixed.
I have already taken the car into a local import mechanic who removed the dash and believes it must be the actual speedometer.
Looking online I have found volvo websites that refer to a speedometer sensor and we have also called our local Volvo dealer(Champaign, IL) and they said they could order a new speedometer with odometer for around $250.00 My local mechanic will do the work for between $80-140 if I can get the parts.
Any suggestions??

I just fixed a similar problem in my 740 by replacing the speedo with one I got in a wreck yard. Pulling the cluster out is not that big a deal; 7 connectors, and a hose, if you've got a turbo. My only caution would be to be sure that you disconnect the battery; it's all too easy to blow the fuse in the cluster otherwise (Ask me how I know).
Before doing this, I would suggest that you determine if the odometer is still working while the speedo is doing it's tricks. If they both stop working at the same time the problem could be in the sending unit in your differential, which is an easier fix.

1992 940 GL Sunroof issue
The Sunroof in my 1992 940GL will not close all the way. When I did get it closed a few times the front and rear passenger corners of the sunroof do not line up...there are gaps. The gap is smaller in front and larger in the back.
Unfortunately as I tried to get it to straighten out and close I actually made it worse and now it is 3/4 in the open position. We have been getting a lot of rain here in Central IL the last few days so I had to garage the car.
I removed the interior cover to attempt to manually close the sunroof but could not get to everything. I know you can use a screwdriver to manually close it, although I cannot access the clip or pin.
The service garage that does a lot of my work on the car thinks I will have to replace the motor and gear track. They think something cracked off.
I checked under the VOLVO World parts website and it says they no longer carry sunroof motors, etc.
Any suggestions of other sites, maybe craigslist or do I need to contact my local Volvo dealer? I have no idea how much this might cost...$750-$1200 for parts and labor.

drop the headliner around hte sunroof, and you should be able to access enough of the mechanism to unjam it, and get it to go all the way forward and up.
the best way to repair it might be to find another 740/940 in a pick-n-pull, and remove its complete sunroof assembly... figure out how it all works out of the car... then take yours out, swap the painted metal panel, and install the 'new' one after thoroughly greasing its tracks and moving parts, and put your headliner back up.
