compressor replacement.
Hi all
Ive just been to have my aircon regassed as there's a good deal at the moment at a local large chain. They coulcn't do it becasue my compressor doesn't work, however the guy assured me the system does not leak.
So, is the compressor easy enough to replace? Are they expensive new or would you trust a guranteed used part from a breakers?
At least it seems i dont have the lovely job of replacing the evaporator

RE: compressor replacement.
It should not need to be started by hand.
But the compressor will not work when it gets to low on freon. There is a low pressure switch in the lines just before the firewall. Unplug the wires and install a jumper wire into the plug and see if the compressor comes on. If it comes on then the compressor is most likely good. Either it is low on freon or the low pressure switch is bad or something else.
Nut if it doesn't come on make sure you are getting power to one wire in that plug.
