1998 V70 XC AWD 2.4 rear shock type?
Hello. I have a weeping rear shock absorber on my V70, and so will need to replace both shocks. I have not done anything to the rear shocks before, and am not completely sure that my car has self-levelling suspension, though I think it does. Can someone let me know for sure? Here is the information stamped on the ID plate which is under the hood on the inner left wing (right side, behind the air cleaner and battery, when you are looking at the engine):
876 W2 461788 31
YV1L25641W2461788 3080

If I am correct that I need self-levelling shocks, which cost a painful =/-$280 per unit, can anyone tell me where to get these for the best price? I normally use FCP.

I have the same year and they are Nivomat. You can be absolutely sure just by looking at them. Nivomat have a rubber boot surrounding the shaft of the shock and non Nivomat don't. If you do have Nivomat you must replace it with the same thing. Depending on the condition of the shocks would determine if you should do both or not. If its rusted out like mine were then you will want to do both or it won't be long until the other one goes. If your on a budget you can always pick up a used one or set like I just did. I was lucky to get one from a member here named rspi and he lives in nm where the parts are not all rusted out..check with him and see if he can get you another set or shock if the other side looks good.
