98 turbo questions

98 turbo questions
98 V70 turbo auto.
I've been working on this car here and there as time allowed for the past 3 or 4 months. Had to do a number of things to it that included the headgasket, oil pan reseal, water pump, timing belt, and a bunch of other miscellaneous things. It has not been started throughout all of this work. It has seen a few cold nights outside with no coolant in it, (drained all that i could before starting all of this work).
Got it all back together, started pouring fluids in preparation for startup. Poured maybe two cups of antifreeze in reservoir and immediately heard it dripping out on the ground. Searched around for the leak and found this...
the turbo coolant supply line is not leaking however there is a port just beneath it that appears to be the culprit. In the picture you can see it between the supply line and oil drain line gasket. I know the pic is a little disorienting but thats the side of the turbo that is closest to the engine. coolant feed line is on top oil return on the bottom.
My question is, does the turbo have a freeze plug? is that the location of it? If not What is that port for??
On a side note. How important is the rotor cover plate to the ignition system?...

I don't think the turbo has a freeze plug, even if it did, it would not have popped if there was no coolant in it. Did you pull the turbo or the exhaust manifold when you pulled the head off? Was the car running before you tore into it? (I really can't see what the pics are showing on my phone).
As for the distributor dust cap, I don't think that matters but have never tried to run the car without it. My thoughts is that it's a back up in the event that the cam shaft seal starts leaking, helps guide the oil from fouling out the cap leads. It may also prevent spark from jumping back to the motor or cam shaft.

Yup a quick search through MVS and that area in the pic is the freeze plug for the turbo. i know the photo wasnt the best but its in a hard to reach area. why it pushed out i have no idea maybe some water was trapped in there or something. i separated the turbo from the exhaust manifold and the down pipe but i never pulled out of the car, just supported it out of the way.
The car ran before the teardown just not very well and would not hold coolant due to the headgasket. The turbo freeze plug must have happen while the car sat. cause it never leaked from there before.
Thanks for the headsup on the dust cap. After having the car apart for all this time a few things have gone missing. Think i'll hit a yard to see if i can find one.
