Default 98 v70 xc power window issues

My passenger rear window will roll down from the driver master window controlled, but will not roll back up. However, I can get it to roll back up from the passenger rear window control. Could this be a relay issue from the master? No issues with any other windows.

Tim,

I would suspect that on your car, the driver's master controller, that either the down contact has some corosion or other issue with the contact. That's my guess. As for the relay, it's integrated into the driver's master controller from what I've read.

But for my car, even if the child safety is toggled to prevent the rear controllersfrom working, it wouldn't expain why my driver's master controller is able to move the left rear window up and down and has no effect on the right rear window.

It's possible that the valet engaged the child lock thinking it was the door lock, and that the driver master controller just developed a bad "down" contact on its rear right toggle switch.

I have to investigate a bit further as the car is in the garage and valet.

My '99 exhibited the same problem. I opened the switch up and cleaned it. It worked the same as before except that smoke came out of it after 90 seconds.
One of the suppliers, IPD I think, had an aftermarket switch for half the dealer price and I took the chance.
It worked.

You can try the "common reset". After getting all the windows up, try locking and unlocking the doors 5 times with the key fob.
There's another reset which involves pulling the window fuse before the lock/unlock cycling. I cannot remember the particulars fully.

All,

I had access to the car from the garage and I learned the following.

While the master window controller is just two years old and the car is used only one or so per week for short drives, the problem really IS the master window controller. It's rear left button simply doesn't function. I was in denial that it fail so early, and with so little use. I thought that it might be something else that went wrong like a window motor or whatever -- but it turns out that the original 1998 rear window switches and the front passenger controller all do indeed operate the windows as they should. And THEY are all original from 1998.

The master window controller is Volvo OEM and I paid a lot for it but it failed me way too soon. Sadly, I bought it from a dealer and not FCP and it has no warranty anymore after just over 2 years. Interestingly, all the local window switches (passenger side front, passenger side rear, driver side rear) all are original from 1998 and work fine. And while I purchased volvo OEM replacements for those as well (as part of a small parts inventory), I am not going to change them out until they fail, because it is clear that putting new ones in early may not be such a good idea -- although they would look a lot nicer than the originals.

So for now, I get to buy a new master window controller from some place. They all look the same on Ebay, Switch Doctor, etc.

I also need a few of the safety lights on the doors so that they glow red when the doors are open. Does anyone know if there is a clip for them or do I just buy the them on FCP or Ebay. I am just not sure if they have a separate clip that helps them pop in propertly. One of them dangles a big and I may just some use some bathroom silicone calking to help bind it to the door.

Thanks all, Tom
