Default Axle halfshaft won't seat all the way in

Anyone out there live? My driver side axle on my 98 V70 doesn't seem to be going all the way in. I need about another inch to get my lower control arm lined up. Currently, I have EVERYTHING disconnected from the hub and rotor except the strut and the axle, and the axle is the only thing holding the control arm away from the car.

My car is apart in a place where I can't leave it, so immediate response would be appreciated.

There is a c clip at the end of the axle, I found it sometimes easier to get some weight on the axle to help pushing it in, like using the knuckle.

If you replaced your axel shaft with a aftermarket (new) shaft, the splines on the shaft may not be correct. (I had the same issue...and had to revert to a Volvo Re-manufactured to get the correct splines to fit the transmission. Went through 3 different shafts before one would fit.)
