Default A few quick timing belt / water pump questions

In the process of a timing belt job on a 2000 non turbo. It’s 1/4 past TDC and then back to TDC to unload the vvt right? Doesn’t mention it in the guide I’m looking at as they have an 850. Also, with all of the coolant being drained, what do you guys usually run in yours and how much does it hold?

The 850 doesn't have a VVT gear. I take it you didn't use a cam lock when you removed your original timing belt? You should be able to find Youtube vids on detailed instructions on resetting the VVT gear by Googling. The coolant should be silicate and phosphate free - You should be able to use the green coolants (that's what I used in my 850). Avoid the Dexcool "orange. You can research and buy online at Volvo/Euro friendly web stores like EEuroparts, FCP Euro. Owner's manual says the car takes about 7 Liters of coolant.

Belt is still on, I was going to work on it a little more this evening. Would it benefit me to pick up a cam lock tool?

You don't need to lock the cams. Line up the marks, pull the belt, put the belt on and you're good.

If the VVT moves, just move it back so the mark lines up.

You could just put some white-out on those and count the teeth on the new belt to get the white marks on the same tooth. As long as you put it back on the same place it came off.

Procrastinated a bit, but got finished up today. Took about 3 hours total, including a trip to the store because I forgot to pick up a serpentine belt. Pretty simple job, could probably knock it out in 2 hours next time. Can’t believe I was considering paying someone $800 to do this job.
