Default Normal Coolant Temperature range

I used to have an S70 that ran coolant temp from 186F to 191F like clockwork regardless of the outside temperature or driving conditions. I bought a V70 (FWD NA auto) not too long ago with a thermostat that was stuck open and wouldn't really get over 150F. I replaced it and now it seems to run between 190 and 195 most of the time, but if I drive for long periods under 30 MPH and as low as stopped, it will slowly climb until the cooling fan kicks on at 220F, and it kicks off at about 209F and the cycle repeats. The temp gauge doesn't budge at all once through the whole thing.

Is this normal? What is your experience? Was my old S70 a freak?

Default Hmm

Im having roughly similar issues. I cant tell how hot this motor is supposed to get, but after a few months of long drives and only now getting an obd2 scanner, im surprised how few issues im actually having. Im hitting 220f after a few hours on the road, but needle stays put. Only aspect Ive noticed in performance is that the oil darkened a bit quicker than expected. My coolant is fairly dark, seems like someone put a bunch of tap water in there and I guess theres algae growth. Ill try to come back with results after I do my timing/flush my coolant.

Since it doesn't seem to be an immediate issue, I'm not too concerned with it at the moment. I will be getting a new radiator and new radiator hoses along with my Tbelt/Wpump, PCV, and AC service in the next year or so. I also notice it has a MUCH easier time staying under 200F when it it's under 60F outside. I'm really hoping it's just the original radiator and it's not dissipating heat like it should. I guess we'll find out sooner or later.
