Reversing light switch on V70

Hello rspi - I'm pretty sure it's the switch. It can't be the fuse, because the light works sometimes, and Park, Neutral, Park is OK, at least in terms of the selector lever/solenoid/switch and the pedal switch for the solenoid and brake lights.
My issue is that most of the time, the reverse light won't come on, but if I'm in 'R', I can get the light to come on by keeping one hand on the selector and keeping it pressed forward in 'R'. At night, if I select 'R', I can see that the reverse light normally won't come on, but that it will if I press the selector forward a bit, it will. It seems to me that it's the underhood switch which is faulty/loose etc., but I don't know where the switch would be.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Hello again rspi - I now know a lot more about this issue, and realise the errors in my last post. I was confused about what the PNP is, but I'm clear on that now, and know how to access it/clean it etc. I thought there was a simple switch for the reverse lights, separate from what I now know to be the PNP switch.
Am I on the right track now, or is there a simple fix I'm missing, before I tackle the PNP switch? Thanks.
