Default Thinking of buying a Volvo, need thoughts from owners!

Hi!
I'm in search of a new car, currently have an 02' Mitsubishi Galant, and the dealership I bought my current car from has a 99' Volvo V70 base for sale with 48,751 miles. I did some research by looking at consumer reviews on edmunds.com and I seemed to get a mixed bag of reviews. Some said the car was reliable and have 300k+ miles on it, while others complain about constant issues and dumping loads of money into the car.

My grandmother bought an 01' Honda Accord from this same dealership with 48k miles and she found out why it had such low miles a couple of weeks later, trans was slipping and I discovered later that it had a recall for the transmission. Don't worry, I am friends with the owner of the dealership and they paid to have the transmission rebuilt.

Now I don't want to get fooled again with this car with such low miles and find out that the reason it has such low miles is because it's unreliable. The first owner had it for almost 14 years and put less than 10k miles on it. Second owner only had it for a month and the third had it for almost three years.

TL;DR: Interested in buying a 99' S70 with 48k miles. Are they reliable or should I avoid?

The 99's have a pretty bad reputation. The 98's are okay. The main difference is the engine management system. In particular, 99's are the first year of throttle-by-wire and they also have variable valve timing. In general, a 20 year old european car is okay only for people who fix cars themselves. That is true even for the "good ones". So consider that.

I guess I must be one of the few that has bought a gem. I have put on 207k and the only thing that has gone wrong is the throttle body and suspension bushes. Shocks, exhaust, and everything but timing belt, tires and brakes are original.
