I just succeeded in replacing my head gasket but my transmission arrow is flashing. Any ideas what I did?

I took the car for a test drive. It is fine in the lot but on the street it is not shifting. I will jack it up tomorrow and see what I might have pulled off on the tranny.

Any insights would be appreciated.

The information I can add is, the lights are moving back and forth on E W and S at the selector of the automatic transmission. Does this lead me somewhere?

Resolution

I found an article on line, which directed me to turn the car on but not start and move the shifter through the gears many times, maybe 10. At this point the mode would shift to E and stay. Arrow is gone and car is shifting.
