Default 2002 Thermostat

Hello All - I am struggling to find the correct thermostat for a 2002 2.4T. Lots of part numbers say they fit, but it seems the diameters are larger than the factory one I am holding in my hand.

Thanks... Timothy

DO NOT mess around with anything aftermarket unless it's OEM.
RETURN any 'stat you bought at any auto parts store.

I installed a Wahler 271417 in my 2002 non-turbo. They're the supplier to Volvo or were at the time.
I'd wager it's the same 'stat you need but look yours up at one of the websites below to be sure.
Just in case you don't know: FCPeuroparts, eEuroparts and IPDUSA are all top shelf suppliers.
I've bought from all of them and have gotten superb service every time.

Just for reference: My V70's 'stat went out at 127K and 9 years of age. At that time I did not replace the CTS.
Come 2003, the 5 cyl. engine combined the 'stat & sensor into one unit.
I believe the motivation was that the working component would fail shortly after the first.
My CTS never failed. However, they do fail with some consistency.

look up your model on a dealer web store to get the correct volvo part number (I use tascaparts.com since they are here in the northeast but there are plenty of dealers who sell mail order at a discount)
