Default Thermostat help

Hello, I'm suspecting my thermostat has failed open so I'm trying to pick up a new one. I have a 2004 S60 Non-turbo and I'm getting conflicting information from parts stores and volvo and sites online. Can JUST the thermostat be swapped or does the entire housing need to be replaced? Looking at the set up in the car and it looks like the following part.

I only replaced my thermostat when mine failed open. I don't know why the entire housing would need replacing.

From what I'm gathering, 2001 and 2002 are the only years that you could change ONLY the thermostat. Can anyone confirm this?

From Volvo, I'm pretty sure the thermostat isn't available on it's own for that style. I don't remember exactly though. Not sure if there is an aftermarket option
