Autostart problem - won't restart
I've recently purchased a 2012 V70 R design with a D4 engine and a manual gearbox. It has the eDrive auto start feature which I am new too.
On the drive home from buying it, I pulled up to a traffic light controlled junction on a motorway slip road and the car stopped with the auto start. It wouldn't restart and I had to push it around a corner into a layby. I was getting a 'low battery message' - but not immediately. A passing stranger who had helped me and had previously owned a similar model suggested trying to bump-start the car and then try starting it. This worked. He said he thought it was something about jogging the engine over a little and a sensor then operating.
After completing my journey (motorway nearly to my front door so minimal autostart needed), I checked both the batteries. The small checked out at 12.6V but the large was only 12.3V and was a lead acid rather than an AGM. I changed the large battery following the instructions in the owners manual. The car appeared fine and started immediately.
However....
I am getting an intermittent fault in that sometimes, after autostopping, the car refuses to start again. I have got it to restart by pushing it a short distance and then releasing the clutch whilst in gear so than the engine is physically turned slightly (ignition on, but not pushing hard or far enough for a bump start).
When I go through the screen menu, the reason given for the start/stop being unavailable is "For the moment the engine's monitoring system does not allow the Start/Stop functionality. Following examples can be possible reasons: engine temperature, the emission management system ....etc" none of which helps me when I'm stuck in a line of traffic.
The car also refuses to start sometimes when I first go to it. Again, a bit of rocking in gear and it starts. Sometimes it starts without any problem.
I tried searching to see if this is a known or common problem but couldn't find any references to something similar.
Does anybody have any ideas? Is there a sensor associated with the Start/stop?
Does anybody have an idea what may be causing this?
