Default Does dvrs door switch need reprogramming?

The driver's door multiswitch on my 2008 V70 D5 SE G (MY08) 5DR Auto 2400cc diesel 136KW is malfunctioning. The central locking switch operates correctly but the rest (windows controls, child lock and rear view mirrors) are non-functioning. Also, the right rear passenger door intermittently remains in the locked position.

I can buy a replacement switch unit in my local dealers but they tell me that when I fit it I will still have to get it programmed by the Volvo dealer.

Is this information correct? Does the switch have to be programmed in this manner?

Have you checked the wiring into the door from the body?

Check for corrosion in all the connectors. You need SW for the PDM but not the switch. I don't think you need a switch unless it's really falling apart. Check for corrosion around the connectors and PDM

I'm new to this forum.

Thank you both for your responses to my query.

I have taken out the switch but nothing untoward appeared on inspection of the switch and its connectors. I connected/reconnected several times to clean the connections.

Some functions have since re-appeared (windows, rear door) and disappeared again. What I've got here is an intermittent fault.

There are wires inside a rubber cover near the hinge of the door. Sometimes these become frayed or there's an intermittent break in one or more of these wires. If you jiggle the bundle of wires whilst operating the switch, is the operation affected?

Can you peel back the cover and examine the wires?

Thank you James D for your helpful tips.

I will try out your suggestion over next week-end as it looks like a logical explanation for the confusing indications I'm getting.

There are multiple reports of the wires to the tailgate getting broken and causing intermittent failure of the tailgate. Given the inter-connectivity of Volvo systems, it could be that a failure in the tailgate wiring could affect the operation of the door locks.

Default It works again!

Thanks again JamesG for your interest and suggestions.

Sods Law! All functions have now been restored to the switch - without any recent actions by me!

However, I intend to examine the wiring as you suggest this coming week-end.

And I have made a booking with the Volvo dealer for March 9. I want him to examine any computer codes that may have arisen on the system that might explain the erratic behaviour of the switch.

Since the function is restored it could be that the failure was entirely due to corrosion in the connectors which you remedied by unplugging and re-plugging. It then took a number of cycles of unlocking and locking to reset the various modules which control this. If there are broken or frayed wires, then the failure will recur sooner or later.

Bottom line is that you could well have fixed the problem.
