Default Electronics not working

I just received my Basic 2002 V70 that I purchased through an auction with a non profit organization. I opted for the V70 for the great appearance and low mileage for it's age, 85000 miles. When it arrived the transporter said it had a dead battery and had to jump it to get it off the transport. When I got it in the shop I disconnected the battery, neg. first, to charge it up. Everything seemed OK until I test drove it. I found that none of the controls on the steering wheel worked, horn, radio, cruise control. Also the features on the drivers door did not work, windows, mirrors, lock, etc. I am at a loss as to what went wrong and hoping someone has any suggestions. Also when I contacted the seller they said the battery was not dead when it left and ask that I send a picture of the battery which I did last night. They are wondering if the battery had been changed during transport. I have not heard back from yet on this but will pursue you can be on that.

Check all fuses on the fuse panels. You don't need to disconnect the battery to boost start the car.

I did check all the fuses and all good. Changed the battery with another I had and cleared codes and suddenly the door controls were working but not the steering wheel. The replacement battery is better but not that great. I need to get a new battery and go from there. For the first time I got a "low voltage" on the display. The door controls quit again and started again. Thank you for the reply.

I don't know if this works, but unhooking the positive cable on the battery for 12h+ will reset some of the car electronics (the climate controls will appear on auto mode and the blower at off when putting back the battery cable). Maybe give it a try.

I put in a new battery this morning. When I got in the car the door controls were working. I did not mention this happened before when I change the battery with one I had on hand. Just as the time before when I came back to start up the windows were no longer working. There has been no change in the steering wheel controls, they are still not showing any sign of working. Very frustrating.

I am not a mechanic but it sounds like it might be an issue with the alternator. I don't know if it is possible to put in wrong. But your serpentine some people call it a drive belt might be off.

Not at Mechanic. Just based on what I have learned over the years those would be a few things I would ask about.

Also electrical is really above me. But check your Relays as well.

the steering wheel controls maybe out of control because of the broken clockspring.

I did make a alternator test earlier and it is functioning properly. I will have to dig up more more information on the relays. I appreciate your input on thisl

On another thread one member mentioned the ABS module and CEM module control much of the electrical operations of the car.

https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...tration-76980/

Might want to do a search into what those two modules actually control. Again not a mechanic. But I thought what the guy said may be relevant to your problem. Given the Alternator is working properly.

This guy actual said he did replace the ABS Module and his cruise control worked for the first time. So that may be it.

Good tip and work on your part. Something I will have to research. If I am not mistaken the CEM needs a download if replaced. Evidently the ABS does not.

I found a independent shop that can read all codes plus download module software for Volvo. I am taking it in tomorrow early so that they can clear and then scan for new codes. They do this as there are so many extraneous codes stored over time.
