ETM? Throttle response only with Cruise on
Hi all,
First, Thanks to everyone, this is my first post for a long time, but I have done so much to my wagon based on this forums excellent posts.
I'm in Sydney Aus, just having traveled 2300kms to Queensland and back in my pretty worn out 2000 V70 (it is a 2000 build, but the newer shape).
I have cleaned the ETM, after the usual stalling, hunting issues and it worked great.
I have just replaced a very old fuel filter which gave me back a mid range.
I also did the re-solder repair on my abs unit which worked great.
So I traveled 2300kms with cruise working all the way (returning 7.7l per 100kms) and excellent power. But there is the issue, I have great power and torque but only when the cruise control is engaged. On normal throttle (me) the car feels like its heading into a strong head wind, and there is coarseness from about 1300 - 2800 rpm. I should also note that the engine starts with a pretty serious shudder (only at fire up - idle is good).
So while I suspect the ETM is worn, I'm confused as to why the cruise control seems to get good engine power.
When I use the throttle normally, I have to floor it to get anywhere and the economy goes to h*ll.
I have replaced the top engine mount and the front (passenger side in US) mount, but not the 2 hard to get at mounts, which I am sure are shot (hence the harsh cranking). Sorry this is long winded, but I wanted to give a comprehensive picture of the vehicle.
Of course the dealers here in Sydney are a dear as poison and really have no idea (I got quoted 12k to strip the engine down and check it out!).
Does the cruise all good/human no throttle issue ring any bells? Thanks in advance.
