evap code on '01 xc70
So I just bought and '01 V70XC and the check engine light came on in the first 100 miles after I put the plates on. The local autoparts store gave me a code listing all the possible reasons for the evap system not working, I did the first and cheapest thing and swapped out some cheap plastic gas cap for the one that didn't look at all right, or OEM. The autozone one was still plastic, but better, maybe I should get at OEM from the stealership or FCP/IPD?
tank, vacuum lines, etc. also came up... It's good on emissions so I'm just doing my part to help global warming for now, but I'd like to get rid of that code. I drove it another 170 miles with the new cap, which should have cleared that code in about the first 50...
Any ideas before I start chasing down parts? The filler neck seems to have SOME play in it, and I know that the trans was changed out before I bought it.
THanks...

So keep in mind it's an autozone computer not a Volvo dealer one, and it says...
P0455
EVAP large leak detected
Explanation
The ECM has detected a large leak in the EVAP system during a system monitor test
Probable Cause
1. Defective, loose, or missing fuel cap
2. Evap canister broke, hose cracked or not connected
3. Purge or vent solenoid defective
4. Vacuum leak at engine
I did replace the fuel cap, but it was a cheap $10.00 plastic one, of note my older '94 940 had the same problem with the cap during emissions testing, replaced it and it fixed it.
I'm wondering if I just need to get a better quality cap, or if the code isn't clearing, or...my problem is more than just a gas cap?

Solid Brother! Thanks, will do.
(I love this car, I swore I'd never buy a non RWD redblock, but....if this is wrong, I don't want to be right!)
So, on I go... maybe a smaller Volvo specialist can help, mom and pop place or Euro/Swede specialist repair shop.
Ask them why they don't participate in this:
Volvo Advantage Complimentary Services | Volvo Cars
All dealers are supposed to as far as I know. Contact Volvo Customer Care if they don't.

Also.... I'm pretty sure the brake booster is going...either that or someone installed an aftermarket air compressor right next to my brake pedal...

Not cool... I'll be having words with the lot who sold me this car.
Actually, considering the codes that came up, could these be related? I mean, I wouldn't think that the EVAP code would be related to a brake booster leak, and that's GOT to be the hissing noise by the pedal, I haven't looked yet but I'm sure it's the bellows, I've looked into the causes, google is my friend here, but I'm wondering outloud if the cheapy diagnostic computer maybe is reading this wrong, sounds like I need a Volvo dealer to check this out, or take it back to the lot I bought it at and tell them to fix this thing pronto.
Still, I did buy it as is and I want to head off any possible repairs I might be stuck with if they give me a hard time.
I've seen RTV sealer fixes for $5.00 vs. replacing the booster at $700.00
