Error code - Gas Leak Evap
I have a 98 S70. It has 135,000 km on it, and for the last couple years (since 2002) the engine light has been on. I've had almost everything checked out. My mechanic resets the light then within 24 hours the engine light comes back on. any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

RE: Error code - Gas Leak Evap
Bon Jour,
Greetings from Narita, Japan.
Check the gas cap, especially the rubber O-ring for its integrity.
If the gas cap turns out fine, then see attachment. There is only one device within the Evaporative Emissions system that has electrical connector, and the problem could be either the valve is faulty, or something else is faulty and telling the valve to trigger CEL. (Based on the 850, but the S70 would be similar, correct me S70 drivers if I'm wrong).
I hope you find it helpful,
JPN

RE: Error code - Gas Leak Evap
There is a Vent hose on the top of the tank that is starting to crack on these cars.
They are at about the age now where we are starting to see alot of them.
I made a special tool at work to pressurize the system and monitor for leaks.
Thats what you need to have done.

JPN > My 98 S70 has five components for the EVAP system.
1. Canister purge valve. Mounted near the radiator.
2. EVAP canister mounted near right rear wheel.
3. EVAP canister shutoff valve. Mounted above the canister.
4. Fuel tank pressure sensor mounted on the fuel tank.
5. EVAP canister shutoff valve air cleaner. Mounted to the fuel tank filler tube in right rear fender.
NBAC3K> If you'll do a search for "p0172" there are some posts that will give you some ideas on what to look for and how to check for the air leaks that Tech mentioned. But it will take a few tools that the average guy might not have. ie' air compressor and regulator, also a vaccum pump.
Long story short my problem turned out to be the canister purge valve.

RE: Error code - Gas Leak Evap
Hi, I have the same issue as noted above. Check engine code PO442 and PO445. I replaced the gas cap to no avail. Wondering how to check the EVAP valve solenoid( and it's location) and the best way to check the vent hose on the tank(does it require dropping the tank?). I also have been getting gas smells in the cabin from time to time too. What could be leaking and where in order for the smell to come inside? I recently did the timing belt and water pump too.
Help is greatly appreciated!
