Default handbrake adjustment

Hi, My handbrake appears to be very high and has little to no hold when stationary. What is the best way to adjust the cable/shoes? There are adjusters near the shoes and another on the handbrake casing I believe. Do I need to loosen the handbrake adjuster before tightening the adjusters near the shoes then tighten the handbrake adjuster. Any help would be appreciated??

The only adjustment is at the lever.

Ok so the lever is the only adjustment. So failing this could I need new shoes?? If so, would I need to loosen off the lever adjuster before changing them then tighten after fitted? Thanks

You'd have to inspect the shoes, but it's possible. They come apart all the time. You would need to loosen the adjustment to remove the rotors.

I have inspected the handbrake cable adjuster the adjustment is relatively high so on that basis, I assume that the shoes may need changing prior to inspection. Could this be correct?

That would be the most likely situation.

I did not lessen the tension on the handbrake prior to removing rear rotors & the parking brake pads delaminated. Future note: do not do this.

If it makes you feel better, they do it all the time. I doubt it was your fault. It may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, but they would have come apart anyway- possibly while driving- which causes all sorts of damage. So you were better off.

I bought a kit from fcp but I just haven't gotten around to installing them. I'm hoping it's an easy job.

Is there a video or quick tutorial on how to access the adjustment.on the lever? I really don't want to rip the fabric to access it.

There is a video on YouTube. Has said above the trim just pulls up there maybe a plastic cover over the adjuster nut however these seem very flimsy

I just installed new pads & springs this weekend. Not a bad job at all. I started with small glad head screwdriver at the rear of brake handle. It basically has a few clips on the inside (toward passenger seat) & three tabs on driver side. Pops right up. 10mm deep socket (least on mine) to adjust cable tension. Clockwise loosens tension. Counter tightens. Dialed mine in to 4-5 clicks & car stops on a dime. Few youtube videos on how to take out fixing springs helps as they are a bit of a challenge. No special tool needed, just long nose needle nose.
