Heater blower help!!!
It's starting to get chilly. This evening it was in the low 50s when I left work so I turned on the heater in my 2001 V70. Sadly, no hot air came out of the vents. I could hear the flap doors opening and closing when I pushed buttons and I could hear the A/C compressor kick in when I turned on the defroster but no sound of the blower.
I fiddled with all of the buttons and ***** to no avail. I checked the blower fuse but it was okay.
The fan was running yesterday. It did squeak a bit at low speeds but nothing that was really worrisome.
Fan motor? Electronic controls? What?
What think the gurus?
Of course this couldn't happen when the weather was warm. I can live without A/C. Heat on the other hand. . . .

Squeaking is a fairly common problem. Not sure about flat out dying like yours. See link here on blower fan replacement. My has started to squeak in colder weather as well. Undecided if I will replace motor or simply pull it, lube it and replace:

Thanks for the link. If serious fall weather wasn't upon us, this would become a nice weekend project.
I don't remember which car it was but I had one in which fan replacement was a snap. You took the cover off the fresh air intake by the wipers and there was the fan. Oh, for the simple days of yesteryear.

Not sure about the '01 models but the '00 models are easy to get to the fan. Pull the panel under the dash, pull the glove box, then pull the fan. 30 Minutes tops. Hardly a weekend project. Once the fan is out you can secure it and put 12 volts to it to see if it works or not.
