Default Inner tie rods shorter vs longer?

Two auto shops say my 01 V70 XC needs new tie rods in front. One place even showed me how one wiggled, saying they should not do that.

Okay, looking online to order the inner tie rods, I find there are short ones (15 cm)

and long ones (17?)
.

Both check out as fitting my model (ebay system).

Is there some advantage to one size over the other? Does one size not really fit?

I bet it doesn't matter.
2mm overall difference doesn't seem to be that much.

2 cm not mm. About 3/4 of an inch. Makes a difference.

Of course it matters! You need to call the dealer, give them your VIN, and then see which inner tie rod you need. There is apparently a VIN split somewhere.

I set images in my post expressly to avoid people missing my point.

I thank the other 2 posters who noted, it does matter.

I read some other posts elsewhere here where members remarked on how their tie rods had just enough thread to connect them, but not to secure them. Rather alarming.
