low on power and erratic idle
I started my V70XC yesterday as I normally do and after about 10 minutes of driving the check engine light came on and I noticed that the car started running really rough and was down on power, and smelled really bad. I was able to get off the freeway and limp it to my nearest train station. I am guessing the smell of my exhaust was some unburnt fuel and the rough running and down on power my be some kind of ignition problem, one or more cylinders are not running, like maybe a coil or two went out. Not only does the check engine light come on but it also blinks several time then goes to solid again, it will do that like in cycles. I also have a xc90 and had two ignition coils go out but it did run like my 70 is running right now. I am sure it is some kind of electrical ignition problem so any suggestions will be appreciated.
my 70 is about to turn 150K and its a good car, for local driving, but it does seem to becoming to a near end. Just trying to decide if this is a fairly simple fix or $750 or less fix to get another year or so out of my wagon.
Thanks.

Get the codes read with scan tool. This will start to point you in the right direction of what is going on. Likely misfire codes. This will tell you which cylinders to look at for issues.
A flashing CEL light generally indicates that a catalytic converter damaging event is happening. You should not drive the car when this is happening.
