Default Need advice on newly purchased 2002 V70 X/C

Couldn't find a similar thread, so here goes. I recently purchased a 2002 V70 X/C with 178,000 miles on it - with two strange problems that I am not familiar with. The first one is that I hear what sounds like a small motor running under the center console. This occurs constantly even when the car is completely off and the key removed. If I place my finger over what appears to be three vent slits above the temperature control ****, or if I press anywhere on the center console, the pitch of the motor sound increases. The second problem is preventing the car from starting. When I turn the ignition key to crank position, either the text in the text window is scrambled or it displays [start disabled - try again]. When the car starts it runs properly, but I can't use the car because I can never be sure if it will start after I turn it off. Lastly, can anyone recommend a good repair manual for this car?

That the motor of cabin temperature sensor.
It stops when the car really sleeps. (After 30 seconds or so after you switch off).
It just needs to be cleaned and greased a bit.

Immobilizer cannot read your key sometimes. If you have more that one key just try another. If that does not help that might be the antenna that reads the transponder of problem in the CEM module. You can drive you car. The risk is that at some time it may refuse to start.

And you have third problem

Thanks doublebug. I knew there would be issues I would encounter, because the person I bought the car from pretty much gave it away ($1500). The body and paint is perfect. The interior was a little funky and there was a strange smell in the car. I thought it might have been a "dog owner" car. When I first drove it, it started right up and ran smoothly, shifted okay, etc. The seller called me a couple of weeks later and told me he found another key with a remote control on it. I tried to start the car with that key, and maybe this caused the problem. The thing is the remote ctrl key isn't enclosed in plastic, so I don't know where it would have a transponder. I saw somewhere that there is a company that sells rebuilt(?) DIM's. Is this a good option?

Just check the price of used rebuilt and rebuilding yours. And choose the cheapest way.

The repair manual is VIDA. You can buy it pirated on ebay with the DiCE for $130 or thereabout. You need a separate laptop for it unless you trust chinese hackers...
