Exclamation newbie: did I break it already?

First-time Volvo owner ('05 V70 T5).
Pre-sale inspection indicated control arm bushings needed replaced.

I was able to get CAs out and new bushings pressed in, but cannot seem to get wishbone back in. Tried the "ratchet strap" method I found online, but ball joint stud is still a good 3/4" below CA. So I thought I could jack up the hub -- but that only pushed the whole assembly up and away.

So, I put the wheel/tire back on to help maneuver, but somehow while turning and lifting this has now happened (passenger front):

What am I looking at and how do I proceed? Does this just slide back together? Is this the CV joint? My wrenching experience is mostly vintage American iron (building a '52 Ford F3), so I know very little about FWD imports.

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Looks to me by the picture that the cv axle was over extended and did not go back when control arm went back in. You will have to take the axle out and slide the boot up and probably repack the joint and put it in place and reclaim the inner joint boot

Default thanks

so no way to just "push" it back together without having to remove it all?

any tips about getting the control arm to clear the ball joint stud? has anyone had success with installing the ball joint side first and trying to manipulate the bushings into place?
